Candied, spiced apple and overripe Persian melon dominate the Prum 2011 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese gold capsule, with honeyed impingement both aromatically and on the palate reinforcing the sense of relative opacity and rounded richness that the other Graachers in this year’s collection displayed. Here the sense of delicacy is nearly weightless; intriguing and enticing notes of liquid peony and lily enter the picture mid-palate after the wine takes on air; and for all of the botrytization in effect, there is a welcome retention of primary juiciness, spurring a lusciously long finish. Look for four decades or more of luxuriant satisfaction. Drink 2013 – 2053.

Pale golden yellow. Candied apricot, clove, nut oil and a touch of smoky botrytis on the nose. Creamy, tropical fruit flavors are nicely accented by salty minerality. This impressively rich auslese boasts a compelling finish animated by lemon curd and slate.

From 0.51 ha of vines in 2 separate plots planted 1993 and 1965, one in the steepest stoniest part close to Blagny which contributes excellent acidity and structure, the other part is from lower down where the soil is richer and this part gives greater richness and depth to the wine. This shows wonderful intensity […]
Add to cart Producer: Jean-Louis ChavyI don’t normally like fizzes aged for long periods on lees but this, disgorged after five years, seems to have hit a sweet spot. Still very primary and super intense with pastry notes, butter, apple, almond cream, lavender, honey, grapefruit, lemon, lime, white peach and cinnamon. Fantastic intensity with great vibrancy, the acidity so lively […]
Add to cart Producer: MeadowbankFrom the Coal River Valley; made by Sam Connew. Acidity is the secret to all things sweet, and the cool 2021 harvest was idyllic for wines of this ilk. Pale straw green; it leaps from the glass with brilliant purity of white lily fragrance, Granny Smith apple, lime and lemon. Not a molecule out of […]
Add to cart Producer: Pressing MattersOne of the best LBV’s tasted in a long time. I often find them losing a little bit of freshness and bitter notes too apparent. Not a bit of it here, however! Oozing aromatics of blackcurrant, blackberry, mulberry, black cherry, prunes, dates, violets and mint. Luscious and full bodied, some clove and cinnamon, the spice […]
