“Mid purple, the nose offers a leaner raspberry style, and then a little more flesh behind, a darker fruit before the white pepper kicks in, with a little fresh but not vegetal bitterness to finish.” Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy 87-90 Points

Paul Pillot is a producer of its generation, producing wines of great clarity, purity and tension. The quality of his holdings in Chassagne is eye watering and the wines, funnily enough, are mouth watering. 13 hectares is quite a significant domaine, and yet they have become so adored by the restaurant trade in particular, that allocations are smaller than ever.
The style of the wines has evolved over the last twenty years or so, reflecting regional trends towards shorter elevage, a diminution of new oak and earlier picking. The domaine’s reputation rests on its whites and yet their pinots have come a very long way indeed. Like the whites, they certainly occupy the contemporary ground, with virtually no new oak, short aging, high percentages of whole bunches and lighter colours. Freshness, energy, clarity and tension are what the estate aims for and for all their vibrancy, there is an incredible sense of effortless power and ethereal grace.
The 2017 Vat 6 Tyrrell’s Pinot Noir is gorgeous. It’s nervy and has that fabulous angular structure unique to Tyrrell’s. There is a complexity of flavour that I have not yet seen from this wine. Raspberry, strawberry and cranberry with hints of porcini mushroom and cured meat. There are also wonderful hints of oak spice […]
Add to cart Producer: Tyrrell's“A little lighter in crimson purple and showing a touch of oak now. Quite powerful, not quite so harmonious but note that this has been tasted directly after the sublime Nuits-St-Georges Aux Boudots. Actually, this is a fine and nicely nuanced Vosne-Romanée.” 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy “There is a very pretty, perfumed and high-toned […]
Add to cart Producer: Benjamin LerouxA bright crimson red. After a few good few swirls, aromas of ripe raspberries, black cherries, wild herbs and some crushed violets soon emerge. The palate, though, doesn’t need much coaxing, and this silken, sappy wine has excellent depth and persistence. Will be even better six to 12 months from now. 96 points – Philip […]
Add to cart Producer: Giant StepsLe Dessus de Montchenevoy is located above the famed Savigny 1er Cru Aux Guettes. It’s a west-facing site on white soils that sits at an altitude of 350 metres and is surrounded by trees. The altitude and cool air from the forest help moderate the climate here, resulting in slow ripening and flavour development, while […]
