A very rare wine of utmost intensity and exceptional quality, rewarding careful cellaring.
Duck Muck was first made by a stroke of luck. Some super-ripe Shiraz was picked from Wild Duck Creek’s Original Vineyard and made into wine, which didn’t quite fill a barrel. The barrel was then topped up with Alan’s Cabernet Pressings, being the only wine available to David (Duck) at that time in 1994. The resulting wine was given away to their best customers. What David didn’t appreciate at the time was how the blend of these two vineyards, and that specific style, was going to create a wine that was not only of world class quality, but gain cult status all over the world.
With a few refinements, Duck Muck is possibly the hardest wine for Wild Duck Creek to make. The vineyards are meticulously attended to. Cane pruned, shoot thinned, and fruit thinned to try and achieve the perfect balance in any particular vintage. The fruit is then picked and partly destemmed into small open top fermenters. The Original Vineyard Shiraz has 30% whole bunches left in the ferment. The wine is then gently basket pressed into 100% new Dominique Laurent barriques and matured for up to 27 months. Duck Muck, when bottled, is extraordinarily intense, with layers of texture, a wonderfully complex aroma, and incredible length and depth. Winemaker’s Notes

From the first whiff the Vat 8 waves the flag of Tyrrell’s and the Hunter Valley. Cola, blackcurrant, blackberry, cinnamon, coffee, milk chocolate, clove and violets. Full bodied, plush and lifted by Christmas cake spice and crunchy red fruits. Luxurious and round, with ripe tannins and soft acids. The most digestible Vat 8 of recent […]
Add to cart Producer: Tyrrell'sThe Thief in the Night cuvee is a wine that increasingly pushes the solo message of premium Grenache despite still having minor blend components of 7.5% Syrah and 6.5% Cinsault, the ‘salt and pepper’ of the wine. This beautifully pristine Piekenierskloof Grenache from dry farmed bush vines grown on sandstone soils underwent spontaneous fermentation with […]
Add to cart Producer: SavageIntensely complex and aromas of blueberry, sweet raspberry, dark cherry, blackberry, lavender soap, lavender wood and five spice. Boom! So much energy and muscle, super tight, tense and coiled. Even the tannins are complex, sleek, firm and finally, powdery. Deep core and not the concentration of sweet fruit, but a deep core of savoury, spicy, […]
Add to cart Producer: La Rioja Alta“This is the lightest bodied Columella ever, according to Eben Sadie, but he’s not lost any concentration or intensity at the lower alcohol level. Sourced from 12 different vineyards, seven of which are on the Paardeberg, this features components from slate, gravel, granite and sandstone soils and is a brilliant vintage of one of the world’s […]
