Composed with 30 per cent from each of pinot noir and pinot meunier, and 40 per cent chardonnay. It has 40 per cent reserve wine, and spends three years on tirage. It is the go-to rosé for wine professionals, with nuances of juicy/poached red berry fruits, yet finishes dry and fresh. 96 points- James Halliday’s Top 100 Wines of 2022
Billecart-Salmon is one of my favorite Champagne houses, and their non-vintage Rose (Lot #L85547401905M) is a consistent winner. A delicate pink color is accompanied by gorgeous sweet cherry, strawberry, and mineral-like scents, assertive medium-bodied flavors, a delicate, crisp personality, and surprising depth as well as persistence. A beautiful berry character in the finish adds to this impeccable rose’s captivating style. 94 points – Robert Parker – Wine Advocate #162

Growers since the early 1800’s, the Dethunes began bottling their own Champagne in the 1930s. It’s a tiny estate, 7 hecatres in total, planted to 70% Pinot and 30% Chardonnay, a typical varietal split for Ambonnay. Ambonnay is a grand cru village, producing some of the richest and most powerful Champagnes. Almost all the vineyards lie on south facing slopes, but the ground and exposure is uneven and more varied, contributing to greater complexity and a finesse not found in Aye or Bouzy. The soils are 93% chalk, the highest in the entire region, but the top soil is rich clay and silex. Power, richness and finesse.
Vinification and ageing is in oak sourced locally, either in the traditional Champagne 205 litre barrels and/or 34 hectolitre foudres. Coming from a grand cru village means that all fruit is 100% grand cru and, in the Dethune’s case, has the highest level HEV, High Environmental Value certification for sustainable viticulture. Up to 50% reserve wines are used for the Grand Brut NV from a perpetual solera begun over 40 years ago.
One cannot escape the richness and power of Ambonnay’s fruit, and why would you want to. Paul Dethune’s Champagnes are nothing if not classic Ambonnay, with a level of finesse, refinement and freshness almost unequalled in the village. Krug sources the bulk of their fruit from this illustrious village, including their rarest and most expensive wine, Clos d‘Ambonnay. If we take the Krug as a reference point, Dethune is brighter, fresher and more vivid. They are Champagnes of incredible width, long palates and soft bubble. Deep, vinous and gourmand, for drinking and pairing with food.
The Brut Réserve is based on the 2019 vintage (65%) with the balance from the two previous vintages. The blend is split between 35% Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims (specifically Ludes, Trépail and Ormes); 30% Chardonnay from sites across both Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne; and 35% Pinot Meunier from Mareuil-le-Port […]

The latest rendition of Egly’s emblematic NV Brut Grand Cru is based on the 2016 vintage, and it was disgorged in spring 2021 with only one gram per liter dosage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, wheat toast and citrus oil mingled with hints of white flowers and praline, it’s […]
Read more Producer: Egly-OurietThe tightest, most compact and coiled Champagne of the range. The power of the fruit is very apparent and you can taste why this was aged in 205 litre Champagne barrels. Intense and vivid aromas of blackberry, Middle Eastern spices, toasted almonds, white peach, poached plum, fig and brioche. This is extremely powerful, brighter, less […]
Add to cart Producer: Paul DethuneThe latest rendition of Agrapart’s NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Terroirs is excellent. Based on the 2018 vintage, with fully 60% reserve wines from 2017 (some 40% of which mature in wood), it’s medium to full-bodied, seamless and chiseled, evocative of citrus oil, buttered toast, mint and fresh bread. It derives from […]
