The 2021 Nautical Dawn, from vines grown on granite soils, has a backward bouquet that demands more coaxing than the previous vintage. Eventually it reveals attractive sea spray, petrichor and subtle, pressed white flower scents. The palate is taut and linear on the entry with impressive depth; the 2021 is a little strict at first but reveals discrete lanolin and grilled hazelnut scents with time. Persistent, yet you get the feeling that it’s hiding something up its sleeve. Be patient with this one. Drink 2024-2045. 93+ points, Neal Martin – Vinous
Called Nautical Dawn because of the Rustenhof farm’s proximity to the waves of False Bay, this subtle yet concentrated old-vine Chenin Blanc has some seashore aromas, flavours of beeswax and nectarine, understated oak, a volatile lift and the focus and precision that are the hallmarks of Chris Alheit’s winemaking style. Drink 2023-2030.

Intense aromatics of lemon sorbet, fresh herbs, pear, lime marmalade and white bread. Succulent, juicy, tangy and slightly textural, with savoury spice, fig, tarragon and bergamot. Delightfully different, with a round shape, great acid line and chalky/salty finish. Waters Wine Co I’ve been following this winery for a time now and enjoying the experience. […]
Add to cart Producer: Juxtaposed“The 2022 Palladius is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Sémillon Blanc & Gris, Palomino, Verdelho, Colombard, Clairette Blanche and Viognier from several sites. Eben Sadie says that this is the wine he has wanted to make. It has a delectable nose with wax resin, linseed oil and hints of orange blossom. The palate […]
Add to cart Producer: Sadie FamilyThe 2022er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese Klaus (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from fruit harvested on 60-year-old vines in the prime Gross Schock sector of the vineyard and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar. Still very reductive […]
Add to cart Producer: Hofgut Falkenstein“This is a very fine, fragrant and floral Le Haut Lieu Sec. While delicate, the 2021 fills the mouth with a cloud of pure fruit reminiscent of violets, apple and nectarine skin. There’s a fine sinew that pulls the wine through on the finish. It can be approached in its youth but will go on […]
