The Braemore Vineyard, planted in 1969, is widely considered one of the best vineyards in the Valley. It is in the Hunter Semillon dress circle on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin. Thomas is one of about twelve producers, including Tyrrell’s, on this narrow, two-kilometre strip of ‘Grand Cru’ Semillon soil. Once an ancient sea floor, the deep, sandy loam soils are free-draining, allowing deep root penetration, which is perfect for the variety.
It’s universally accepted that the site produces some of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley Semillon. It is particularly famed for producing wines of remarkable longevity. Andrew states, “The thing that sets Braemore apart, what gives it its longevity, is that extra level of intensity and concentration that comes from Semillon grown on this kind of soil.”
The various blocks within the Braemore vineyard were hand-picked in mid-February. Each batch was meticulously hand-sorted to ensure only the very best fruit went through for whole-bunch pressing (to minimise phenolic extraction). After fermentation, the wine spent five weeks on lees before bottling.

2023 is a great vintage across Tasmania covering all varietals. Sourced from vines planted in 1987, the juice is whole bunch pressed into French oak, 10% new, for 9 months. Quite a contemporary style with tangy grapefruit, citrus, white flowers, cream and subtle oak. Lively, and zesty, with unctuous fruit, reductive notes, oak and zingy […]
Add to cart Producer: MeadowbankSourced from 22-year-old vines on the lower end of the east-north-east slope, the Crudo bottling channels all the vivid, savoury Rhône-like appeal Luke searches for while delivering plenty of delicious, drink-me-now appeal. This year, just 10% bunches were included in the ferment to avoid overcrowding the spicy blueberry flavours and fine, granite-derived tannins, and the […]
Add to cart Producer: Lambert WinesFrom several districts, off old, dry-grown bush vines. The ferments are all nuanced, but all are wild, and there is always some whole bunch; maturation for eight months in old French oak. Pale in hue and pretty in fragrance, such is the vintage. Flavours skip through cranberry, wild raspberry, pomegranate and rose, with white pepper […]
Add to cart2022 is another great Hunter vintage. Fleshy, citrus fruit – lemon zest and juicy lime. Classic Hunter Semillon with a softer edge, making this an earlier drinking beauty but one that will still cellar for a decade or more. Waters Wine Co Sourced from a small selection of Tyrrells’ favourite Semillon blocks, the grapes […]
