A great vintage for By Farr Chardonnay, although every vintage seems pretty great! The lusciousness and richness is dialled up, without any loss of freshness. Creamy with cashew, yellow peach, spring jasmine, wood spice and nougat beautifully interwoven. A wine for flavour fetishists, utterly palate coating. Textured, with dry extract – the mid palate, bursting with flesh, curve and vigour. How do they do it, year in, year out? Waters Wine Co
The trademark characteristics of the wine produced on our site are understated power and length with a mineral finish. The wine has a great fruit expression that is well integrated with French oak. The soil characteristics have come through in the style of wine we have today. The palate is fine but firm, with great acidity, texture and length. This wine is rich in flavour, yet very refined.
The By Farr chardonnay comes from the same site as the Sangreal pinot noir—composed of red soil over limestone—and was planted in 1994. The limestone of this site is not exposed on the surface as at other sites. The limestone starts 20 to 30cm below the surface, to the depths of the root zone of the vines. It is a very exposed north-facing slope. The clones used for the chardonnay are a mixture of Dijon clones and Penfolds 58. Winemaker’s Notes

Producer: By FarrThe coolest and highest site, providing the most angular and obviously structured of the chardonnays. Reductive notes of struck match, green apple, white peach , grapefruit, sweetened condensed milk, citrus blossom and white flowers. Cool tasting, spicy and long. A wine of linear shape and great drive. Some chalky minerality on the close adding textural, […]

Sourced from John and Josie D’Aloisio’s vineyard located high up on the hill above the township of Seville. The I10V1 clone Chardonnay was planted in 1991 on its own roots (non-grafted) and is grown on the stunningly rich red volcanic soils this subregion of the Yarra Valley is famous for. Bottled in early July this […]
Read more Producer: Dappled WinesA tiny 0.41 ha strip of vines located at the bottom of Grand Cru Les Clos. More apparent wood is present on the otherwise similar nose. There is however more richness and volume to the slightly bigger-bodied and more concentrated flavors that also brim with sappy dry extract while exhibiting outstanding length on the powerful […]
Add to cart Producer: Christian MoreauFrom a tiny patch of vines within Smith’s vineyard. More new wood here and longer time in barrel, so it’s essentially classically styled and not a ‘contemporary’ expression as the other chardonnays are. Beautifully pure aromas of spring jasmine, honeycomb, mandarin, yellow and white peach and very fine oak. Very deep, brooding, fleshy, a masterclass […]
