The 2021 Nautical Dawn, from vines grown on granite soils, has a backward bouquet that demands more coaxing than the previous vintage. Eventually it reveals attractive sea spray, petrichor and subtle, pressed white flower scents. The palate is taut and linear on the entry with impressive depth; the 2021 is a little strict at first but reveals discrete lanolin and grilled hazelnut scents with time. Persistent, yet you get the feeling that it’s hiding something up its sleeve. Be patient with this one. Drink 2024-2045. 93+ points, Neal Martin – Vinous
Called Nautical Dawn because of the Rustenhof farm’s proximity to the waves of False Bay, this subtle yet concentrated old-vine Chenin Blanc has some seashore aromas, flavours of beeswax and nectarine, understated oak, a volatile lift and the focus and precision that are the hallmarks of Chris Alheit’s winemaking style. Drink 2023-2030.
96 points, Tim Atkin MW – South Africa Special Report

“This is a very fine, fragrant and floral Le Haut Lieu Sec. While delicate, the 2021 fills the mouth with a cloud of pure fruit reminiscent of violets, apple and nectarine skin. There’s a fine sinew that pulls the wine through on the finish. It can be approached in its youth but will go on […]

From vines with an average age of 37 years. Fermented in a variety of vessels, from stainless steel to foudres and aged on lees in old, large format French oak. What an absolute ridiculous bargain this wine is. Cool and breezy with green apple, lemon, lime zest, pear and honeysuckle. Clean and precise, loads of […]

First produced in 2020, this Chenin Blanc hails from dry farmed, bush vine vineyards that are less than 20 years’ old, blending components from Stellenbosch and the Swartland. Savoury and refreshing, with mouth-watering acidity, rock salt and lemongrass flavours and the zip that’s typical of the 2021 whites. 94 points – TIm Atkin MW […]
Read more Producer: Alheit VineyardsThe Anjou Blanc is from old densely planted vines, rooted in shallow sand and schist soils. Aged for up to 18 months in 500L and Stockinger “cigar” barrels, 30% of which are new. This is certainly the estates signature style, if more approachable, fuller and rounder than the more aristocratic Savennieres. Clear, tender, transparent and […]
