The Braemore Vineyard, planted in 1969, is widely considered one of the best vineyards in the Valley. It is in the Hunter Semillon dress circle on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin. Thomas is one of about twelve producers, including Tyrrell’s, on this narrow, two-kilometre strip of ‘Grand Cru’ Semillon soil. Once an ancient sea floor, the deep, sandy loam soils are free-draining, allowing deep root penetration, which is perfect for the variety.
It’s universally accepted that the site produces some of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley Semillon. It is particularly famed for producing wines of remarkable longevity. Andrew states, “The thing that sets Braemore apart, what gives it its longevity, is that extra level of intensity and concentration that comes from Semillon grown on this kind of soil.”
The various blocks within the Braemore vineyard were hand-picked in mid-February. Each batch was meticulously hand-sorted to ensure only the very best fruit went through for whole-bunch pressing (to minimise phenolic extraction). After fermentation, the wine spent five weeks on lees before bottling.

Sourced from 22-year-old vines on the lower end of the east-north-east slope, the Crudo bottling channels all the vivid, savoury Rhône-like appeal Luke searches for while delivering plenty of delicious, drink-me-now appeal. This year, just 10% bunches were included in the ferment to avoid overcrowding the spicy blueberry flavours and fine, granite-derived tannins, and the […]
Add to cart Producer: Lambert WinesThe 2021 Monument lives up to its name (having previously been labelled “La Colline”). This is a great Semillon, perhaps a step up from the 2020. Yellow plum and honeysuckle intermingle with dried apricot and a very light, cereal-like note on the nose. The palate is well balanced with a slight flor-like note on the […]
Add to cart Producer: Alheit Vineyards‘This wine has been gone for too long. I’ve missed it. It has a pinkie onion skin vibe in the glass, and the nose is of ripe fruits, and a complex oak derived aroma, but not simply woody, maybe more like almonds or more specifically a marzipan character. On second smell, the nose is of […]
Add to cart Producer: Farr RisingI love dry white Bordeaux, but alas the sort that I like, I can’t afford. To honest, I don’t care where it comes from and Chateau du Cedre are displaying the versatility of their terrior with these wine styles and varietals. Very classic aromatics of white flowers, Anzac biscuit, mirabelle plum, white an yellow peach, […]
